Over 2 decades after the death of his father Bradley Nowell (of Sublime), 23-year-old Jakob Nowell is poised to release the debut album from his band, LAW. Recorded by Eagles of Death Metal guitarist, Dave Catching, There and Back Again  represents LAW’s sonic journey captured within the walls of the renown Rancho De La Luna recording studio, which was prominently featured in Dave Grohl’s Sonic Highways documentary series, as well as Anthony Bourdain’s Parts Unknown series.

LAW is a 4-piece rock band out of Long Beach, CA featuring vocalist Jakob Nowell and bandmates Nick Aguilar (drums), Aidan Palacios (guitar) and Logun Spellacy (bass). The foursome, all in their early twenties, trekked  to Joshua Tree, CA and holed up at the infamous Rancho La Luna for inspiration. The sessions yielded 13 songs, which were mixed and mastered by Michael “Mic Dangerously” De La Torre at 17th Street Recording Studios in Costa Mesa, CA.

LAW draws their sound from a wide range of rock bands such as Tool, Primus, Rush, Queens of the Stone Age, Incubus, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Jane’s Addiction to name a few of the group’s mainstream influences.

The audio single for “Cold” released to DSPs On Friday, October 12, 2018. LAW debuted its sound to the massive Aftershock Festival in Sacramento, CA, on Sunday October 14, 2018 alongside musical influences System of a Down, At-the-Drive-In and Alice In Chains. Showcased “LIVE” on BandBabe.com

A music video for “Cold” which features the band in a Game of Thrones themed costumed affair is slated to drop the week of Halloween. LAW plans to release its full-length LP There and Back Again on Black Friday, November 23, 2018.

The following is Jakob Nowell’s “Statement to the Listeners”, where he addresses his thoughts on the band’s current position:

“LAW is Jakob Nowell, Nick Aguilar, Aidan Palacios and Logun Spellacy. The four of us over the years have developed a strong brotherhood and a unique sound in our music. We are now finally ready to share our new sound with you the listener. If you have discovered us through your love for my father’s work, then we are more than happy to have you. However, you need to know that we are a different entity entirely in both sound and vision. We have a lot of respect for the fans of Sublime, and if you are discovering us for the first time, maybe you will like what you hear. Regardless of how you found LAW, LAW wants you to listen. LAW wants you to develop an opinion. LAW wants you to decide for yourself, with no preconceived biases. Nick, Aidan, Logun and I create new exciting music that covers all areas of the expansive genre called rock.   If you’d like to be a part of this listen close and then prepare to journey out with us.

“There and Back Again. “
